Calcium and the African Bantu woman

“The African Bantu woman provides an excellent example of good health. Her diet is free of milk and still provides 250-400 mg of calcium from plant sources, which is half the amount consumed by Western women. Bantu women commonly have 10 babies during their life and breast feed each of them for about ten months. But even with this huge calcium drain and relatively low calcium intake, osteoporosis is relatively unknown among these women.”

Becoming Vegetarian

I became vegetarian in June 2005 and shortly after started transitioning to vegan. Both changes were relatively easy for me.

Why I'm Vegan: For the Animals, for the Environment, for my Health.

I don't know why I hadn't made a vegan discovery sooner in my life, but everything until now has led me to be vegan. I love animals. The Dalai Lama says that all living creatures want just two things in life: to be happy, and to not experience pain. I want to contribute to that line of thinking. I also feel the environment is being destroyed every day and it's making us sick. I want to do my part. I also have always researched exercise and nutrition and try to live a healthy lifestyle. I am vegan to improve the quality of my health and extend my life.
